What is a Blackjack

Blackjack is amongst the most popular casino card games in the world. The game of blackjack gets it popularity from the fact that it has a nice blend of probability and player’s expertise, even more when combined with the hype of card counting which relates to observance of cards that have been already dealt in the previous hands.

Blackjack is based on the fundamental objective to have a better ranking hand than the dealer by taking it as close as possible to the figure to 21 without going over it or else the player gets busted or loses. The hand ranking is compared to the one held by the dealer whose rules are pre defined in this game. The cards ranging from to 2 to 9 count as their face value, and the cards from 10 to King all count as 10 only where as an ace can be taken as one or eleven depending upon the choice of the player and is said to be implicit to make a better hand and there is no need to spell out to the dealer.

In the start two cards are dealt the player and one to the dealer depending on which the player makes a choice for the third card. The choices available to the player are stand which means the player holds on to his current value, hit which means that the player draws another card, double which means that the player doubles his current stake and draws one more card only from the stack and split which is only available in the rare event of both the cards having same value.

The choice of third card by the player depends on the total of his two cards as compared to the dealer’s one card which is kept face up. After the player makes his move, then it’s the turn of dealer to draw his card/cards unless the player busts in which event the dealer turns out to be the winner. In most blackjack games, the dealer must draw another card if his total is below 16 and stands on 17 and higher values.

It is an easy game to learn how to play. Since it is a player friendly game, it offers them an ability to vary their bet in middle of the game.

Blackjack, also known as twenty-one or Pontoon, is one of the most popular casino card games in the world. Much of blackjack`s popularity is due to the mix of chance with elements of skill, and the publicity that surrounds card counting (keeping track of which cards have been played since the last shuffle). Blackjack`s precursor was vingt-et-un ("twenty-one"), which originated in French casinos around 1700, and did not offer the 3:2 bonus for a two-card 21.
